CIVIL WAR.

More new releases than you can shake a stick at recently. With Civil War being one of them. Civil War is a movie that has been hyped and hyped, and by all accounts it’s a good film, the score however has been met with varying degrees of negativity and also some positive reaction. I sat and listened to the score over and over, and to be honest, I don’t like it that much, it is electronically realised and sounds like it, whereas sometimes its difficult to pick a synthetic score because the sounds and performances are just so authentic as in, they sound symphonic.

The score is by Ben Salisbury and Geoff Barrow, and its one I could not get on with, and I know everyone will be saying that’s not nice is it. But it is the truth, everyone is different, and everyone likes different things.

And on this occasion, no thanks, its dreary, and non-thematic, just layers of soundscape for the most part, which lacks development and direction. Yes, it probably fits the movie, but even scores that are non-thematic I would like to think contain a modicum of musicality, this does not its one long droning piece, which one will find difficult to separate as the sound and style is just the same all the way through. Its on digital platforms so make up your own mind.
